On August 31,2020, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill (AB) 3088. This new law protects renters, small landlords, and homeowners who are unable to pay their rent or mortgage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The law – The Tenant, Homeowner, and Small Landlord Relief and Stabilization Act of 2020 – took effect August 31, 2020. Additional information about this law can be found here.

The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) was tasked with developing a tenant, landlord, and homeowner resource website, housingiskey.com, to not only provide information and resources on this new legislation, but also house the soon-to-be revised publication, California Tenants – A Guide to Residential Tenants’ and Landlords’ Rights and Responsibilities. Please be advised that the website will be continuously updated over the next few hours, days, and the coming weeks.

The development of the website was a collaboration between Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency (BCSH) and DRE.
